Cambio a equipos por año escolar para la temporada de fútbol 2026/2027

The major National Youth Soccer Associations—US Youth Soccer (USYS), American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) and US Club Soccer have agreed to adopt an age group formation cycle running from August 1 to July 31, more commonly known as the “Grade Year” age group verses the current “Birth Year” age group. 

Starting with the 2026 Fall/2027 Summer soccer season, player age groups will be determined by an August 1-July 31 seasonal year cut off which very closely mimics the cut off for school grades.  This is different than the current age group which follows a calendar year (January 1-December 31).  This change is impacting every soccer team in every soccer club that plays under USYS, AYSO and US Club Soccer, not just our club and the clubs in the metro area. 

In 2017, U.S. Soccer mandated that all teams switch to a calendar year system to align with registration systems used for national teams across the world.  The calendar-year system has not translated well in the United States where often registrations and levels are more school based at both the youth and college levels.  This system also created a large pool of “trapped players” who were unable to register for soccer in both their 8th and 12th grade years due to their birth year. 

Las principales asociaciones nacionales de fútbol juvenil - US Youth Soccer (USYS), American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) y US Club Soccer - han acordado adoptar una formacion de equipos con ciclo de ejecución entre el 1 de agosto y 31 de julio, mejor conocido como grupos por "Año Escolar", opuesto a los grupos basados por año de nacimiento. 

Comenzando con las temporadas de otoño 2026/verano 2027, los equipos seran formados atravez del ciclo de ejecución entre el 1 de agosto y 31 de julio, el cual imita mas cerca al ciclo escolar. Esto es diferente a los equipos acutales, los cuales estan formados usando el año calendario (1 de enero - 31 de diciembre). Este cambio no solo afecta a los equipos y asociaciones de fútbol en la area metropolitana, si no tambien a todos los equipos y asociaiones de fútbol que son sancionadas bajo la USYS, AYSO y US Club Soccer.  

En el 2017, bajo el mandato de U.S. Soccer, se cambiaron las formaciones de equipos usando el año calendario, para asi alinear el sistema de registro con el de equipos nacionales atravez del mundo. El año calendario probo no ser eficaz en los Estados Unidos ya que las inscripciones y niveles estan alineados con el sistema educativo a nivel juvenil y universitario. Este sistema tambien causo problemas con jugadores que no son capaces de inscribirse durante el año escolar octavo (8) y doceavo (12) debido a su año de nacimiento.
