GENERAL RECREATIONAL SOCCER INFORMATION

Rec Club Objectives

Develop soccer players at an early age. Teach basic skills of soccer. Have fun.

Age groups

For the Rec league we use the standard Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) group age guidelines. The groups are called U5 (including pre-K kids), U6, U7, U8, U9, U10, etc. where U is under that age as of July 31. The MYSA soccer year runs from Aug 1 to July 31. Example: if your daughter is 9 years old when the Rec season starts in Aug but will be 10 before July 31 of the following summer she is a U10 player. MYSA has a Birth year Guidelines web page that might help you.

Pre-K kids are defined as turning age four before or during the session in which they will participate.  This age group should sign up for the U5 grouping.

Rec Program Age Groups

Spring Rec is available for boys and girls ages Pre-K to 10.
Fall Rec is available for boys and girls ages Pre-K to 12.

Registration Fees and Refund Policy

The registration fee for Rec Soccer is $95.  If you register after the deadline the fee is $110.  Refunds will only be offered before the first day of the session. Once a refund form is submitted, the player will be refunded the amount paid, less a $50 processing fee.

Team Formation

Teams are formed based on the number of participants and coaches, and are determined by roster vacancies, player age, and gender.  Due to the number of participants in our program we are unable to honor special requests for specific coaches or teammates.

Coaches

All Rec coaches are volunteers.  The SSA provides training so no experience is necessary.  We encourage parents to volunteer when you complete your child's registration online.  The only requirement is that you pass a background check.

Equipment

The players need a water bottle, ball (size 4), shirt for practice, shorts (black preferably), shin guards, socks that cover the shin guards, and shoes. Shoes can be tennis shoes or soccer cleats. We will hand out the SSA soccer shirts at the first practice; please have your child wear them to games.

Location

All games and training are at the 17th avenue soccer complex (between SACS and Sun Path Elementary schools).

Where to find Information about Rec Soccer

The most updated information about this program can always be found on the website.  However, rosters and game schedules will also be posted at the soccer complex once a season begins.  If there are major changes to a schedule, or if other pertinent information arises, an email will be sent to all partipants in a timely manner.

Weather Cancellation Policy

The SSA club will make a call on whether to play the games or cancel due to bad weather by 4:00 PM of the day of play or early Saturday morning for Saturday games. Check the home page of SSA web site and look for information on whether fields are open or closed.  You can also follow shakopee soccer via twitter to get updates.
