Why Now: MYSA, the governing body of youth soccer in Minnesota, does not allow any clubs to hold tryouts prior to August 1st and or until the last State final game is played, whichever is latest. Subsequently the Minnesota state High School league does not allow any tryouts or contact with traveling players during their season which starts either the 2nd or 3rd week of August (depending on the year) and ends in October. This gives MYSA clubs approximately 2-3 weeks each summer when tryouts can be held, as a result, this is the time of year when every club holds their tryouts. We understand the timing is not always the best for families, but we are bound by these rules and we hope this helps you better understand the timing.
Fees for 2011:
As a board, we are always looking to improve our program and in particular our training of your child athlete. We have had many conversations recently both as a board and with consultants from within our club and outside our club and have decided as a board that we need to increase the opportunities and availability for your child to have access to training, both during the season and during the winter months as well. As a result, we are incorporating our winter training as part of the fees for this year. For some this will be an increase in your fees, for those who already participate in winter training, you will actually see a slight decrease in your overall fees. At our 2010 team meetings we asked everyone for volunteer payments to help defray the overall cost of our coaching staff and we are grateful that some of you were able to help. As we announced at those team meetings, in 2011 this cost will also be included in your registration fees.
We look forward to another successful season in 2011 and we are excited to work with you and your child.
Tryouts and evaluations are held to determine the number of teams SSA will field at each age group and to place players at a playing level that best fits their commitment level and playing ability.
